Position Description:

The UU Church of East Aurora’s mission is to help its members to find their authentic selves, to put their values into action, and to support them as they travel the journey to create their best lives. Our immediate goal is to create a growing and vibrant community here in East Aurora so that more people can benefit from our work. The Lead Teacher will play a key role in helping us to accomplish this goal by providing a high quality Children’s Program for families in the community. This person will focus on the following:

  • Use the curriculum provided by the Unitarian Universalist Association each month to create a lesson plan for a weekly program for children ages 4-12

  • Coordinate with an assistant teacher

  • Deliver the program from 10:45 to 11:45 each Sunday morning

Compensation:
This position will be an independent contractor and pay $30/hour. We expect the work to take 3-4 hours a week, including 1.5 hours each Sunday morning.

UUEA holds services from mid-September until mid-June and the right candidate will be able to teach on most Sundays during this period. We understand that the candidate will likely need some Sundays off for personal reasons and our only expectation is to give us reasonable advanced notice.

Key requirements are:

  • Experience as a classroom teacher

  • Strong knowledge of social/emotional development, and an inclusive/empathic disposition.

Being a Unitarian Universalist is preferred but not required. We will train you on what you need to know.

Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible

If you are interested, we are also searching for a Membership Coordinator. These two positions could be combined into one role. It would double the number of hours to 6-8 per week and Sunday hours would be 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.
